Living for one who is worthy

Betrayal.

Jesus experienced it; many of us experience it.

In some ways the sting never lessens; and yet in other ways the Lord has been gracious to lessen the sting and dull the memory — and heal the pain in this heart that is now his.

Yes i had questions; yes i had grief — maybe even seeds of offense.

But overwhelmed in his presence, there was only one fitting response: worship.

Life is short; there is only one fitting purpose: living for the one who is worthy.

On that glorious day, when I look upon the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, I will see a Lamb who had been slain. His glory will overwhelm me, and there will be no right response except to instantly fall on my face, crying with the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders that He alone is worthy.

“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

All the sacrifices, all the trials and tribulations, all the mountains and valleys will fade away when I am awestruck by the One who died for me. Every crown I have received for my work on earth I will throw back at his feet. Nothing will stand in comparison to the One who loved me first.

No question will stand unanswered, no grievance unresolved. All the intellectual debates I’ve had with Christians will suddenly seem trivial, all the finger-pointing and judgment suddenly childish. All that is left to be done is to worship with every tribe and every nation at the feet of the One who is truly worthy.

And then I will realize that, all along, Jesus was a person, not an agenda.

Following Him will cost in this life. By some comparisons, it may cost a lot. But everything we surrender will never, ever cost as much as what He already paid on the cross.

Loving others will be a sacrifice, but all my sacrifices will never amount to anything close to what He sacrificed for me on that cross.

Jesus I love you. Maranatha.
